In 29 hours and 27 minutes by bike from Aachen to Berlin – Reception at the Embassy
On Saturday, 16 July at 10.00 clock are Dominic and his team started in Aachen at the City Hall. The goal of Berlin in less than 30 hours drive away, was set high.
But he has done it! Supported by a great team he has around 15.27 clock on 17 July, reached after exactly 29 hours and 27 minutes by bike only the outskirts of Berlin.

The remaining miles to the embassy arranged then unfortunately a bit tedious due to the Berlin city traffic.
After exactly 730.8 km and almost 31 hours driving time, he has the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Berlin reached.
Cambodia’s ambassador, Dr. Chem Widhya received him personally and hosted a very nice party in the garden of the embassy.
Dominic made the tour was over thank god good health – is what we are all very happy!

The social purpose of our action could also be finished with a great success: 51 donors want to support the charity trip with a mileage allowance of a total of € 5.91, ie, it is expected to 4320th – € come together to support the Blind project in Cambodia.
Dominic has recovered in recent days after the tour again very good and very pleased about this great result. Because he sees that he can move in this way a lot, this should not have been the last action.
All our supporters, donors, sponsors and supporters, we hereby say a very heartfelt thanks again. Without you / you all this relief effort would not have been possible!

Cambodia is one of the poorest countries on earth. People with disabilities are still affected by these conditions much harder than the average population. Medical care does not take place, only a few receive education, training, almost none. Must beg, abused or neglected to be the hard fate of many, especially young people there.
Since last year there is a special project (comped-Home) in Phnom Penh, the Cambodian capital, which is devoted to a training of visually impaired young people. It is supported and accompanied by the Thuringian Cambodian Society (TKG) in Erfurt. An academic support for working with blind and visually impaired people is backed by the BFW Düren gGmbH. The Telecommunications Act is making its contribution through the proven since many years cooperation with its subsidiary organization comped in Cambodia. Many social projects have been implemented already. The financing of the work is done exclusively through donations. All employees / volunteers working inside Germany.
At the same time this configuration ensures that all donations will be used according to their purpose.
Dominic Micheel would like to help with his campaign that this unique service project can be financed in the long term, and so that as many visually impaired people can gain a perspective on their lives.
He starts with his bike on 16 July in Aachen at a distance of 700 km, the aim of the next day in Berlin, the embassy of the Kingdom of Cambodia. GW is a journey time of under 30 hours.

The students who are invited to participating in the camp are those studying English through the U.S. State Department’s “English Access Microscholarship Program”.
On July 2, the US Embassy in Phnom Penh hosted the Cambodia 2011 English Camp for over 150 students from nine provincial cities. The event began with cheerful entertainment from the Marine Forces Pacific Band – the “Party Band”, based in Hawaii. What a fun day for students who have little opportunity to participate in an event like this!

Ambassador Carol A. Rodley officially opened the event by congratulating the students, who each received an English Access Microscholarship to begin their English studies. She also stressed the importance of knowledge of the English language in Cambodia, as a way to be competitive in the current job market and in today’s global economy. In addition, she encouraged the students to study hard and said their effort will help both themselves and their families in the future. She added that the US Embassy is very pleased to support these students in pursuit of their goal to study and improve their English.
The full day of activities was coordinated by Senior English Language Fellow Joel Wiskin, and twenty two US Government exchange program alumni. Each alum conducted an activity or led a group of students from one activity to another. The English games, almost all chosen by the alumni, were: Jazz Chants, Quick Brain, Fortunately/Unfortunately, Scrabble, Finding Friends, Bingo, Banana, Matching, Waiter Race, Jeopardy, and Slap the Board. The students were divided into eleven groups and attended the eleven different activities. The day concluded with fun and joyful group songs led by the alumni.
In addition to the English Camp, the Access student participants were each provided with a ticket and stipend to attend the public “Fun Fourth” event on July 3 at the US Embassy. They enjoyed the playground, watched the band perform, posed for a group picture with the Embassy Marine Security Guards, got their faces painted, and much more. Some of the students even asked if there would be such an event they could attend again next year.
The English Access Microscholarship Program (Access) provides foundational English language skills to non-elite, 14-18 year old students through after school classes and intensive summer learning activities. Access students gain an appreciation for American culture and democratic values, increase their ability to participate successfully in the socio-economic development of their countries, and gain the ability to compete for, and participate in future U.S. exchange and study programs.
Since its inception in 2004, approximately 55,000 students in more than 70 countries have participated in the Access Program.
In Cambodia alone, the program has sponsored approximately 601 students, 151 of which are currently taking classes and will finish in late 2012 or early 2013. Current programs are being implemented in Ratanakiri, Kratie, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Kampong Chhnang, Kampot, Battambang, Kampong Speu, and Phnom Penh. We have collaborated with the following partners: Build Bright University in Ratanakiri (BBU), The Cambodian Muslim Development Foundation (CMDF), The Cambodian Islamic Women’s Development Association (CIWODA), The Cambodian Islamic Youth Association (CIYA), The Islamic Local Development Organization (ILDO), The Islamic Community Kan Imam-San of Cambodia (ICKIS), and The Cambodian Muslim Community Development organization (CMCD). The students who participated in this event are the 7th generation to attend this program in Cambodia.

To promote understanding and friendship between Germans and Cambodians, we have initiated a Patenschafttsaktion. Our club was the first who has mediated in the war-torn Cambodia in the 90 years of sponsorship for mentally and physically traumatized orphans, long before government arrival of international aid in this sector.

Many of the orphans of our peace building in Siem Reap, who have lost their parents or one parent due to war, accidents or diseases like AIDS and malaria, have momentarily German foster parents. Some children and young people we want to convey yet. Then we come to our oganisatorischen time limits, because basically all the members are volunteers. We see our sponsorship as a unique opportunity to participate in the life of another across all boundaries. So this is still guaranteed, we will limit the number of sponsorships at about 100 and also communicate only in individual cases.
Already € 25.00 a month, enough to give a child with food, clothing, education and hope for the future. Your money, letters and small gifts will be on trips in my home brought by me personally.
All questions on child sponsorship at any time you can make happy. In addition, we’ve also added information that can be downloaded here in PDF format: Fact Sheet child sponsorships.
The Cambodian side confirmed a “brief encounter” on Friday morning. “We’re very sorry that Thailand is the (ceasefire) agreement is broken,” said a spokesman for the Cambodian government in Phnom Penh. Six of the Thai artillery shells had struck near the temple of Ta Krabei on Cambodian territory. Cambodia, however, hold fast to the ceasefire and will not react to provocation.

Since February 2011 we will once again be fighting in the border region between Cambodia and Thailand. In just the last days of April, 13 soldiers are in mutual shelling killed. Both sides accuse the latest provocations have started.
What is it really in these debates and we do these on a possible holiday in Cambodia?

The boundary line between the two nations is not well defined in many places. Especially the area around the 900 year old temple of Preah Vihear, both countries claim for themselves. Since this temple was recognized in 2009 by UNESCO as a World Heritage site in Cambodia, the conflict has escalated militarily.
Further background information on this border dispute can be found here:
Cambodia-Thailand border dispute
Endanger the fighting in the border area between Cambodia and Thailand have planned holiday in Cambodia?
Definitely NO – as long as you do not exactly go in this area (or 25 km radius).
Tourism is important for both countries, the economic factor, and they can not risk scaring off foreign tourists too. Especially the Thai people will keep fighting to expand to other regions, although some nationalist politicians view Cambodia as a province of Thailand, and exert more control would be happy.
Tourism is Cambodia still in its infancy and primarily focuses on the region around Siem Reap (the world famous temples including Angkor Wat), the capital Phnom Penh and the southern coastal region around Kampot, Kep and Sihanoukville. Thus the embattled region is not on the itinerary of most visitors.
It’s a little surprising that such a poor country like Cambodia, according to the Thai military again and again begins the Thai soldiers to provoke and attack. If you look at the relative strengths of the two opponents look at the military superiority of Thailand will quickly become clear.
Add to that the fact that international observers are not required in the contested areas of the Thai side …
